PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – President Barack Obama is making his fourth visit to Oregon as president. Today, Obama is scheduled to promote free trade at Nike headquarters outside Beaverton. Obama wants Congress to approve so-called “fast track” trade authority, giving him leeway to negotiate a trade deal with Asian countries that would be subject only to an up-or-down vote, without amendments. Critics are planning to protest outside the event today.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Jefferson High School Student who was 15 when he was accused of sexual assault is scheduled to be sentenced to three years in prison next month. The Oregonian reports that Deandre Kilduff, who is now 17, pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree sodomy and attempted first-degree sexual abuse. Kilduff will serve his prison term in a juvenile detention facility.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say the teenager charged with attempted murder in a shooting near Portland’s Cinco De Mayo festival handed the gun to the alleged shooter. A prosecutor said in court documents that the victim, Robert Beckles, was fighting with 20-year-old Bruce Holdman and the 17-year-old before the shooting. Beckles lost the fight and started to walk away. An off-duty reserve officer was among those who witnessed Beckles get shot in the back. Beckles was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters have strengthened containment lines around a wildfire burning in southwest Oregon near Glendale. A spokesman with the Douglas Forest Protective Association says crews were helped during the evening by higher humidity readings due to fog.
