Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Washington County deputies are asking for the public’s help after human remains were found in an overgrown busy area of a Portland suburb. KPTV-TV reports that a tree trimmer who was clearing brush along roads in Aloha found the decomposed remains around noon yesterday. Deputies say the remains are from an adult, but they are not revealing the gender at this time.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Mayor Charlie Hales says his proposed budget will provide more money for affordable housing and programs to help young people stay out of gangs. The mayor says he continues to emphasize a “back-to-basics” approach, and that means more money for street repairs, including a program to help pave the city’s many dirt streets.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities are trying to find whoever drained a reservoir east of Prineville. The Bulletin newspaper reports that someone opened the head gate last month on the dam holding back Peterson Creek Reservoir. Investigators do not have a clear motive. No one lives in the area and it may have been up to two weeks before anyone noticed that the reservoir was drained.

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) – The damage estimate from last month’s fire that destroyed a condominium complex in Government Camp has been set at nearly $11 million. Hoodland Fire District officials tell The Oregonian that they’re working with investigators from several insurance companies to determine what started the three-alarm fire.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two environmental groups are threatening to sue a federal agency over what they deem its failure to develop a recovery plan for the Oregon coast coho salmon. The Oregon coast coho has been protected as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act since 2008. The National Marine Fisheries Service says the lawsuit is unnecessary.
