Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – President Barack Obama will make a stop in Oregon next week to raise money for the Democratic National Committee. Democratic Party of Oregon Executive Director Brad Martin says the president is due in downtown Portland on May 7. It was not clear whether the president will make any public appearances.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – People who say they used to be gay but are now straight are asking an Oregon Senate panel to defeat a bill barring health professionals from trying to change a child’s sexual orientation through therapy. The measure has already passed the House. Supporters of the bill say the therapy should be illegal because it can lead to anxiety, depression and destructive behavior in children.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Construction begins next month on a bicycle tunnel on the Row River National Recreation Trail where a woman was killed in a 2011 crash. The Register-Guard reports the tunnel will bypass the intersection where South Lane School Board member Michelle Portmann was struck and killed while biking the path.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon utility is challenging home brewers to make great-tasting beer from hops, barley, yeast and a special ingredient – treated sewer water. The point of the Pure Water Brew Challenge is not to find Portland’s next trendy craft beer. Rather, it’s an effort by Clean Water Services to get people talking about how a vital resource can be reused thanks to advanced water-filtration systems.
