WOOD VILLAGE, Ore. (AP) – Property owners want $11.2 million for the former Wood Village dog track that’s spent the last few years empty while an effort to turn it into a casino fell through. The Oregonian reports that the city of Wood Village now envisions a mixed-use commercial and has invested about $3.5 million in infrastructure improvements.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon legislative committee heard an earful from local government officials yesterday about a proposal strengthen the state’s public records laws in the wake of the scandal that led to former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s resignation. They say the bill to speed the response to records requests and limit fees would be too expensive and time-consuming.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Newberg man whose property foreclosure was featured in a 2013 HBO documentary is getting another opportunity to pay off his half-million-dollar debt. The Oregonian reports John Cox’s bank says it will work with him on his $551,000 debt when he becomes eligible for his pension in June. Cox cares for his 13-year-old son with Down syndrome.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding grants to five western states, including Oregon, to develop geothermal energy. Research teams in Nevada, California, Idaho, Oregon and Utah will share the $2 million for the first phase of the project. Next year, DOE will choose three finalists to share an additional $29 million.
