Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man will spend life in prison with the possibility of parole for his role in the murder of a Silverton man in 2013. The Statesman Journal reports that Andrew Slover will not be eligible for early release based on behavior but will have the possibility of parole after 25 years. A jury this month found Slover guilty of helping another man kill Jeffery Lamoreaux and steal his money.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) – A former police officer is due in court today for a hearing on accusations he killed a woman whose body was found in a suitcase discarded along a rural Wisconsin highway. Steven Zelich is also a suspect in the death of an Oregon woman whose remains were found in a second suitcase at the same location. That woman is identified as 19-year-old Jenny Gamez, a college student from Cottage Grove.

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) – Wyoming is likely joining the list of states charging the so-called Military Mistress and her current husband with check fraud. The Casper Star Tribune reports employees at a business tell police Bobbi House wrote more than $1,000 in bad checks at the store. She and her husband are also wanted for check fraud in Oregon. House is accused of marrying at least a dozen military servicemen to gain access to their bank accounts.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Legislation expanding background checks will be getting a full House vote for the first time after an Oregon House committee narrowly approved it on a party-line vote. The House Committee on Rules has advanced a bill requiring background checks for nearly all private firearm sales. The bill has already passed the Senate and could come up in the House next week.
