HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A former Oregon jail worker accused of having sex with an inmate will not be allowed to present an insanity defense. The Oregonian reports that a Washington County judge ruled yesterday that the attorney for Brett Robinson did not give enough notice of his intent to use the insanity defense. She’s accused of having sex with a 25-year-old gang member from the maximum-security unit of the county jail.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Opponents of a proposed propane export terminal have disrupted the Portland City Council’s Earth Day session. The Oregonian reports Mayor Charlie Hales blurted, “This doesn’t happen here” as protesters carrying cardboard cutouts of council members disrupted the meeting yesterday. He then temporarily adjourned the meeting and walked out. The council will vote soon on whether to allow the project.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Six people have been chosen to receive Heinz Awards from a Pittsburgh-based charitable foundation for their innovative work in the arts, environment, human condition, public policy and economics categories. Oregon State University professor Aaron Wolf is the public policy prize winner. He’s worked to negotiate disputes over shared bodies of water in the United States and around the world.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers are down 2 games to none as they return home for Game 3 of their best of seven playoff series against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies beat the Blazers 97-82 in Memphis last night to grab the franchise’s first 2-0 lead in a playoff series. Portland lost its first two playoff games for the first time since 2011, when they fell in six games to Dallas.
