MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Mike Conley and Courtney Lee each scored 18 points, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Portland Trail Blazers 97-82 last night to grab the franchise’s first 2-0 lead in a playoff series. The Grizzlies took full advantage of starting the playoffs with home-court advantage for only the second time in their short postseason history. They had only won their playoff opener once before, and that was on the road in San Antonio in 2011.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Portland guard Arron Afflalo was out with a strained right shoulder, and the Trail Blazers were also without center Chris Kaman last night in Game 2 against the Memphis Grizzlies. Coach Terry Stotts said that Kaman twisted his left ankle in practice when the Trail Blazers were going through some of the Grizzlies’ plays.

SEATTLE (AP) – J.A. Happ earned his first win with the Mariners as the Seattle bullpen held off the Houston Astros 3-2 last night. Acquired from Toronto in an offseason trade, Happ (1-1) won in his third start. He gave up two runs and eight hits in 7 1-3 innings, walking none and striking out five.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have signed outfielder Carlos Quentin to a minor league contract. The team says Quentin will report to Triple-A Tacoma. Thirty-two-year-old Quentin was released by the Atlanta Braves on April 14, shortly after being acquired from San Diego as part of a six-player trade that sent reliever Craig Kimbrel to the Padres.
