Third official takes up Dunes City Duathlon challenge

With just under three weeks until the Oregon Dunes Triathlon and Duathlon, another elected official has accepted a challenge issued by Dunes City Mayor Rebecca Ruede.

Veneta mayor Sandra Larson has pledged four hours of public service to the winning city if a team from her community does not come out on top in the duathlon.

The Oregon Dunes Triathlon and Duathlon will be Saturday, May 9th. There are two lengths… the Olympic version of the Triathlon begins with a 15-hundred meter swim in Woahink Lake. It’s followed by a 40-kilometer bicycle ride on Canary and Clear Lake Roads before wrapping up with a ten kilometer run through Honeyman State Park. The Sprint version is roughly half the length… and the Duathlon is just the biking and running.

Event details can be found at Oregon Dunes Triathlon-dot-com.

Make your own yogurt

A class this Saturday at the Real Food Co-op will demonstrate how to make yogurt and kefir at home. The two products, when made at home, are high in probiotics which have been found to keep your gut healthier and can boost your immune system. They can also be high in B vitamins and many minerals… and making it yourself can mean you have control over the amount of added sugars.

Real Food Coop is on Rhododendron Drive, just a half-block off Highway 101. The yogurt and kefir class will be Saturday from three to four pm.
