Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The National Weather Service says wildfires in Siberia are to blame for haze hanging over much of the Pacific Northwest, giving sunsets a red hue. Forecasters in Portland expect the smoke to dissipate today, which is expected to be another warm and sunny day.

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. (AP) – Junction City Police Chief Mark Chase says he may sue the city after officials investigated him and put him on paid leave for more than five months. The Register Guard reports Chase claims the city and then-city administrator Melissa Bowers tried to remove him from his position because of bias against his Christian religious beliefs. Records show complaints prompted several investigations of Chase.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Older women with health problems are increasingly seeking beds at Bethlehem Inn, a Central Oregon homeless shelter. The Bend Bulletin reports men usually outnumber women 2-1 at the shelter, but Director Chris Clouart said that gap has closed lately. Clouart said the increase in older women seeking shelter has sparked a conversation about the need for facilities specifically designed for geriatric populations.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Memphis Grizzlies never trailed in routing the Portland Trail Blazers 100-86 last night in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round series. Reserve Beno Udrih scored 20 points for Memphis. LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 32 points while taking more shots than anyone had ever taken against Memphis in the postseason. Game 2 is Wednesday night in Memphis.
