MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Reserve Beno Udrih scored 20 points and the Memphis Grizzlies never trailed in routing the Portland Trail Blazers 100-86 yesterday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round series. Zach Randolph had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Marc Gasol added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Conley finished with 16 points and didn’t play the fourth quarter. LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 32 points while taking more shots than anyone had ever taken against Memphis in the postseason, going 13 of 34. Damian Lillard added 14 points, shooting 5 of 21 overall and 0 of 6 beyond the arc.

SEATTLE (AP) – Austin Jackson singled in the tying run in the ninth inning, Nelson Cruz followed with a two-out single for his fifth RBI of the game, and the Seattle Mariners overcame a pair of five-run deficits to beat the Texas Rangers 11-10 yesterday. Cruz homered twice in the first three innings, raising his major league-leading total to eight, and Jackson hit the 11th leadoff homer of his career. The big drama came in the ninth.

NEW YORK (AP) – Dairon Asprilla scored a late second-half goal and the Portland Timbers beat New York City FC 1-0 last night. A failed clearance fell to the feet of Asprilla at the top of the 18-yard box in the 79th minute and his deflected shot found the empty side of the net. Portland (2-2-3) bounced back after losing to the other MLS expansion team, Orlando City, a week ago. NYC FC (1-3-3) had its winless streak reach five games.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) – Lamar Neagle scored twice in the first half, Obafemi Martins added a stunning goal in the second and the Seattle Sounders beat the Colorado Rapids 3-1 on Saturday night. Seattle (3-2-1) beat Colorado (1-2-3) for the fifth straight time, outscoring the Rapids 14-3. Neagle bent in his first goal of the season from the corner of the 18-yard box in the fifth minute. Colorado equalized in the 22nd, but Neagle put Seattle back on top 2 minutes later when he tapped in the rebound of his own attempt.
