Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) – Jewell Loyd is the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. Loyd, who was chosen by the Seattle Storm last night, decided to skip her final season at Notre Dame and enter this year’s draft. She’s the first Fighting Irish player to be taken with the top pick. Fellow underclassmen Amanda Zahui B. was taken by Tulsa with the second pick.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger insists he’s not protecting or hiding Mike Conley or Tony Allen. He says both are hurt and were unable to play in Memphis’ last game, even if it had been the playoffs. Well, the postseason has arrived, and the Grizzlies can only hope having three days off before hosting Portland on Sunday night helps heal everyone’s aches and pains.

UNDATED (AP) – The Vancouver Canucks will host the Calgary Flames for Game 2 tonight in Rogers Arena. On Wednesday, Kris Russell scored with just under 30 seconds remaining in the third period, lifting the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Corey Perry scored two goals in the third period of a four-point performance, and the Anaheim Ducks rallied from another late deficit for a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets last night in their first-round series opener. Game 2 is tomorrow night at Honda Center.
