PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Demonstrators calling for a $15 per hour minimum wage have marched through downtown Portland, part of a host of similar protests nationwide. The Oregonian estimates that hundreds took part in yesterday’s march. This week, 15 Now activists revealed plans for a statewide ballot measure next year to gradually raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2019. Oregon’s minimum wage is currently $9.25 an hour.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A Crook County sheriff’s officer in central Oregon says a Powell Butte rancher has reported finding a dead person in his field. The undersheriff said a tentative identification by the sheriff’s office and the Oregon State Police crime lab indicates the body may be Shauna Fowler. The Powell Butte woman vanished about three weeks ago. The body was found yesterday. The death is under investigation.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The National Weather Service in Portland has assessed a small tornado that damaged four vehicles in Eugene as one that probably packed winds of 65 to 85 miles per hour. The tornado touched down late Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot at the Lane Community College main campus.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Federal regulators have approved an early closure of commercial sardine fishing off Oregon, Washington and California to prevent overfishing. The Pacific Fishery Management Council voted yesterday to halt the current season as early as possible, affecting about 100 fishing boats. Earlier this week, the council shut down the next sardine season, which was set to begin July 1.
