GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Federal regulators have approved an early closure of commercial sardine fishing off Oregon, Washington and California to prevent overfishing. They’re hoping to save the West Coast sardine fishery from the kind of collapse that led to the demise of Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck’s novel of the same name set in Monterey, California.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to give prosecutors more time to bring criminal charges in some sex crimes cases. The House unanimously backed an extension of the statute of limitations from six to 12 years for the most extreme cases of rape and sexual abuse. Researchers say sex crimes are under reported, and it sometimes takes victims many years before they feel comfortable going to police.

DALLAS (AP) – A Dallas-area man suspected of killing two people and wounding another in Oregon has been fatally shot by police in Texas. Colby Robinson had been charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the Friday night shooting deaths of Gary Pham and his sister-in-law, Susie Pham, whose husband was wounded in the attack.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man working on the terminal expansion project at Eugene Airport suffered a head injury when he was struck by a tool. Authorities said the 52-year-old man was taken by ambulance to a Springfield hospital. The airport assistant director told The Register-Guard the ambulance ride was precautionary.
