Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Senators have approved a bill requiring background checks on most private gun sales. Under the bill, gun buyers and sellers who aren’t related would have to appear in person before a licensed gun dealer who can run a background check, for a fee, through the Oregon State Police. Some Republican senators say expanding the background check system would do little to curb gun violence while making criminals of law-abiding citizens.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The jury in the murder trial of a southern Oregon woman has listened to a recording of her interview with police, in which she admits shooting two men and acknowledges that her pigs fed on the bodies. Susan Monica is on trial in Medford on charges she killed two handymen living on her pig ranch in a small Jackson County community and dismembered the bodies. The men died in separate years.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police responding to reports of gunfire early yesterday found a man dead in a residential parking lot in northeast Portland. Police say no arrest has been made and there is no information about a suspect. The victim was identified as 24-year-old D’Andre Dickerson.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Poison Center statistics show 11 preschool-aged children were treated at health care facilities for marijuana ingestion in 2014 – up from seven the year before. The medical director of the statewide agency tells The Oregonian the children most likely inadvertently got into marijuana that’s left unsecured.
