OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Nelson Cruz homered for the second straight day, hitting a solo drive in the 10th inning that sent the Seattle Mariners over the Oakland Athletics 8-7 yesterday. Mariners ace Felix Hernandez left after five innings as a precaution because of tightness in his right quadriceps. Seattle took a 7-3 lead into the ninth before Oakland rallied to tie it against closer Fernando Rodney.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) – Alan Gordon scored midway through the first half and the Los Angeles Galaxy held off the Seattle Sounders 1-0 yesterday to snap a two-game scoreless stretch. In the 23rd minute, Omar Gonzalez headed a free kick toward the far post and an unmarked Gordon headed it home in his 200th MLS appearance. Seattle is winless in its last 10 games at Los Angeles.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Rookie Cyle Larin scored in his first start and Kaka added a goal on a penalty kick to give expansion Orlando City a 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers yesterday. Former Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts got his second shutout of the season. The loss snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak at home for the Timbers, dating to last season.

STEVENS PASS, Wash. (AP) – Skiers are enjoying some April snow in the Washington mountains. Stevens Pass reports 16 inches of snow fell over 24 hours and it opened some areas for skiing yesterday. Crystal Mountain and White Pass Ski Area are also reporting fresh snow. The resorts plan to close for the season in a few days.
