CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – As the tourist season approaches, the expanded Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve may not be all that accessible. Legislation in December increased the size of the park in Oregon’s Siskiyou Mountains almost tenfold, from 488 to 4,558 acres. But park officials say it didn’t increase funding to pay for management of the new land.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – More than 100 University of Oregon professors have signed a letter urging the university to reinstate archivist James Fox. The Oregonian reports Fox was suspended after a records release the university’s interim president has called unlawful. The letter sent to Interim President Scott Coltrane and other top administrators says managers have failed to manage records properly and to give librarians enough resources to handle them.

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a 15-year-old girl was stabbed Saturday night during a fight at an Aloha school. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office told KATU-TV a second 15-year-old has been arrested after the fight that broke out around 8:30 p.m. Investigators say the victim was stabbed multiple times and taken to the hospital in serious condition, but she is expected to survive.

ROCKAWAY BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Thousands of jellyfish-like creatures have been piling up on Rockaway Beach in what appears to be a massive die-off. KGW-TV reports velella velella (vuh-lel-uh vuh-lel-uh) typically live in the open ocean. When warm water and storms draw them near shore, the wind blows them onto beaches, where they die in piles. The animals are like a cousin to the jellyfish.
