GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Wait times for Oregon veterans seeking medical care have been slow to improve as the VA struggles to hire new doctors and nurses. A review by The Associated Press found that government data from September through February show wait times at four medical facilities in the Portland area have not improved, and some have gotten worse.

SILVERTON, Ore. (AP) – An animal rescue team has retrieved an 80-pound dog that fell more than 200 feet down a cliff in Oregon’s Santiam State Forest. The Oregon Humane Society says its technical rescue team responded yesterday to help the Great Dane-Mastiff mix named Ranger. Lytle says the dog suffered a broken front leg as well as cuts and bruises. Still, rescuers reported he was alert and friendly.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon schools chief Rob Saxton says he’s leaving at the end of June. Former Gov. John Kitzhaber chose Saxton in July 2012 to head public schools. Saxton says he’s accepted a contract to become superintendent of the Northwest Regional Education Service District.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and 13 rebounds before sitting out the fourth quarter, and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-91 last night. Robin Lopez added 18 points for the Blazers, who have already captured the Northwest Division title but continue to battle for home-court advantage in the playoffs with four games left.
