Viking girls win Junction City Track and Field Invitational

On the track… the Siuslaw Viking girls dominated at the 12-team Junction City Invitational Saturday, running away with the team championship. The Lady Vikings scored 1324 points to Junction City’s second place of 1090. Elmira won the boys’ team competition with 1260 points to Junction City’s 1139. Siuslaw was fifth with 916.

Individual results: Destinie Tatum won the 400, Celie Mans doubled up with wins in the 800 and the 15-hundred. Carissa Oliver won the discus and Abby Watkins the long jump.

For the boys: Joe Dotson was a double-winner in the 400 and the 300-meter hurdles.

Prep baseball and softball

On the diamond… Sutherlin edged Viking softball 8-7 Friday afternoon in Sutherlin. Siuslaw baseball fell to Cottage Grove 7-5 Saturday afternoon.

College baseball 

The number seven ranked UCLA Bruins held off Oregon State in the final games, 4-1 and 10-5 to claim a Pac-12 baseball series win in Los Angeles over the weekend. The Beavers are 5-and-4 in conference play… they’ll take on Oregon at PK Park in Eugene Friday.

The Ducks, meanwhile, had a rough outing at home in a non-conference series against Michigan State. The Spartans came out on top Friday 2-1 in 11-innings, then completed the sweep with a 9-4 win Saturday and then again coming out on top 7-4 yesterday. Oregon will face the Pilots in Portland for another non-conference game tomorrow afternoon.
