Mapleton hosts four-way Mountain West Track and Field Meet
Despite only one individual event victory, the Mapleton girls edged Triangle Lake and two other schools to win a four-way Mountain West League meet in Mapleton yesterday. The Lady Sailors edged their nearest competitor, Triangle Lake, by a score of 112 to 110. Hanna Rodet won the pole vault and was second in the javelin.
For the boys, Chris Free won the 800 and the Triple Jump; Jacob Pruett the shot put and the javelin; and Hunter Simington the pole vault, but Triangle Lake outscored the Sailors 196-165 ½.
Viking baseball falls at home in nonleague matchup
Brad Snow took the loss on the mound, giving up six runs in three innings of work; but the Viking senior also went three-for-four at the plate in a 7-5 non-league baseball loss yesterday at home to the Sutherlin Bulldogs. Scott Gordon was two-for-four at the plate and Trey Cornish, who threw four innings of one-run ball in relief, had two RBI. Siuslaw will travel to Cottage Grove tomorrow.
On the softball diamond today, the Lady Vikings were scheduled to be in Sutherlin for two games today, but rain and field conditions have prompted cancellation.
Viking Track and Field will be at Junction City tomorrow.
Beavers upset number seven ranked Bruins
On the college diamond, Andrew Moore struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings and Christian Donahue’s ninth inning sacrifice fly proved to be the game winner as Oregon State defeated number seven ranked UCLA 3-2 last night in the series opener at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The two teams meet again tonight at seven before wrapping up the series tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. Both games will air on KCFM.
Oregon opens a three-game series at home this afternoon against Michigan State.
