SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An 18-year-old Keizer man has pleaded guilty in the fatal 2014 shooting of his mother and the wounding of his father. Marion County prosecutors said Brett Pearson entered guilty pleas yesterday and sentencing is set for Aug. 28. A second young man charged in the case, Robert Miller II, goes on trial in November.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a Washington state man died after the pickup truck he was driving on U.S. Highway 97 south of Bend collided with an SUV. Troopers said 76-year-old Zeke Hacker of the Spokane area was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the SUV has non-life-threatening injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Fire and Rescue says firefighters found an elderly woman still in her home when they arrived to deal with a fire last night. Fire officials say the woman was reluctant to leave because she was concerned about her dogs. Firefighters doused the bedroom fire, which had an electrical cause. There was little structural damage and the woman and her dogs were able to remain in the home.

BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Obama administration has reached an agreement with Oregon ranchers to protect sage grouse that the ranchers hope will help avoid having the bird listed by the federal government as an endangered species. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and Gov. Kate Brown are expected to be in Bend this afternoon to announce the agreements covering 5,500 square miles of private land in central and southeastern Oregon.
