SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon legislative committee has advanced a bill that would require nearly all employers to give workers up to five days a year of paid sick leave. Democrats say their bill would give an assist to low-income workers, who are much more likely to have to give up pay when they or sick or need to care for an ill child. Republicans and business interests said it would impose a significant cost on small businesses.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon board has yanked the license of a Portland psychologist whose 11-year-old client attempted suicide following her unorthodox treatment recommendation that included drinking milk from a baby bottle while sitting in his father’s lap. According to the Board of Psychologist Examiners, Debra Miller recommended a scientifically unproven therapy to the boy that might have contributed to his suicide attempt.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say they have taken into custody a reportedly suicidal man whose condition prompted a brief closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the bridge between Oregon and Washington. Police say the man would be taken to a Portland hospital for a mental evaluation. Northbound I-5 traffic was diverted off the freeway before the bridge for a little more than an hour.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say a 49-year-old driver who struck and injured a traffic flagger apparently had been inhaling nitrous oxide. Officers said the 47-year-old female flagger suffered serious injuries but was expected to survive. KPTV reports police say the driver was arrested.
