Athlete of the week named
Siuslaw Track and Field standout Billy Jones is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The Viking senior started the season as a triple-winner at the Ice-Breaker Invitational; winning the long jump with a mark of 10-feet, 9 ½ inches; the triple jump with a distance of 40-feet, six-inches; and ran one leg of the winning four-by-400 relay.
Honorable mention goes to softball pitcher Heidi Jones who struck out 17 batters in Siuslaw’s opening double-header victory last week over Bandon. In game one, she fanned ten batters, the second best strikeout performance ever at Siuslaw.
Siuslaw nine falls in Wilsonville
Siuslaw baseball fell twice yesterday in the Wilsonville Tournament. Trey Cornish took the loss in game one, losing 6-4 to Churchill. The Viking senior then went three-for-four at the plate in the nightcap, a 15-11 loss to Wilsonville. Tournament play wraps up today for Siuslaw.
On the college diamond: Oregon State will host San Jose State for the first of two games today at Goss Field. Oregon is in Riverside, California today for the first of two games against U-C Riverside.
