SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon legislative leaders say they’ll move forward this week with a schools budget that education interests call inadequate. Democratic leaders say their $7.24 billion budget provides enough money for most school districts to avoid cutting services. It’s scheduled for a committee vote today, potentially reaching the House and Senate next week. Interest groups representing teachers, school administrators and others say many districts would be forced to reduce school days or lay off teachers. They’re requesting an additional $260 million.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Senate is nearing a final vote on a bill giving tax breaks to Internet providers and companies that own data centers. The bill’s sponsor says the Senate will vote today on the measure, sending it to Gov. Kate Brown. Google says it won’t bring Google Fiber high-speed Internet to Portland without the changes.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that the man killed last week in an explosion along a busy highway leading to Mount Hood east of Portland committed suicide. The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 24-year-old Jeffrey Williams of Portland. The cause of death was injuries from the blast.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say a knife-wielding man killed by an officer last weekend was originally from Pennsylvania. Officers say the violence began as a neighborhood dispute. Police say that 36-year-old Christopher Healy was fatally wounded when he advanced on two officers with a 10-inch, double-bladed knife.
