PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland police officer fatally wounded a burglary suspect who was threatening police with a knife. The shooting occurred yesterday evening as police responded to report of a burglary in progress in east Portland. A police statement says the man tried to stab an officer who then fired two shots.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has approved $545,000 in state financing to help the city of Pendleton build hangars and storage facilities at a testing site for commercial drones in Eastern Oregon. The Eastern Oregonian newspaper reports the state’s economic agency Business Oregon also plans to add $1.1 million in financial help to the range.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County sheriff’s office is investigating the death of an inmate at the county’s jail. The sheriff’s office says the inmate was found unresponsive during a routine security check Saturday afternoon. An initial investigation indicates that foul play was not involved. The Multnomah County medical examiner’s office is looking into cause of death.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The No. 1-seeded Wisconsin Badgers are headed back to the Sweet 16 after defeating Oregon 72-65 in the NCAA Tournament last night. The Badgers beat the Ducks in the round of 32 for the second straight year. Wisconsin played with the lead all game until Dwayne Benjamin tied it at 52 with a high-arcing 3-pointer from in front of his bench with 5:27 left. The Badgers took the lead right back, though, with Sam Dekker’s reverse layup and 3-pointer.
