Prep softball begins with wins for Siuslaw

Siuslaw softball got the season off to a good start yesterday in Bandon. They downed the Tigers 14-1 in the first game of a double-header. Heidi Jones went the distance, five innings, striking out ten. That’s the second most single-game strikeouts in Siuslaw history. She went on to throw seven more strikeouts in seven innings of game two for the 14-1 in the nightcap.

The Lady Vikings will host Cottage Grove for a single game tomorrow at noon.

On the track…

Chris Free and Tucker Ford came away from the Mapleton 300 yesterday as double-event winners for the Mapleton Sailors. Ford won the high jump and the 24-hundred. Chris Free won the long jump and the 600. Hunter Simington was the other winner for the boys in the 200 meter.

Other event winners for the Mapleton girls: Jewel Roby won the girls’ 600; Katie Dearman the long jump; Josi Hayes the shot put.

In Florence:

The Siuslaw Ice Breaker meet featured five teams in an unscored meet. Seth Campbell easily won the 800 meters. Billy Jones doubled up with wins in the long jump and triple jump. The Siuslaw boys 4-by-400 relay team of Jones, Campbell, Jackson Christianson, and Joe Dotson finished first.

For the girls, Destinie Tatum won the 400 and Sierra Potter claimed victory in the 800. The Vikings won both hurdles… Mikaela Siegel in the 100 meter and Kaylee Graham in the 300 hurdles. Carissa Oliver wrapped up with a win in the discus.

On the college diamond; Oregon will host Arizona State for three conference games beginning this evening. Oregon State will host Washington State for three… all will air on KCFM. The first is this evening beginning at 6:30.

March Madness

Turning to Oregon’s March Madness: the Ducks will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys this afternoon in Omaha at 3:50 our time… the pregame show on KCST is set for 3:15.
