MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police in Medford say an 85-year-old woman of an adult foster care home was smashed in the face with a brick and choked before a passer-by intervened to help her. Police arrested a 65-year-old man who also lives at the home. An officer says it was an unprovoked attack. Police say James Lowman was booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Lane County say a 60-year-old man has been taken to a hospital for evaluation and faces several charges after barricading himself in his Cascade Range cabin and firing shots from it. Nobody was hit. Police said the man told officers he might have been having a mental health crisis.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – A 23-year-old Oregon driver involved in a collision that injured three students in a Gresham crosswalk has been indicted on several charges and arrested. Police say a search of the woman’s cellphone showed she was recording a video at the time. Gresham police say Elizabeth Dove of Gresham was arrested earlier this month and then released.

NEW YORK (AP) – Monsanto says it will pay about $350,000 to settle class action lawsuits brought by farmers in seven states over genetically modified wheat. The lawsuits relate to the discovery of genetically modified wheat on a farm in Oregon in May 2013. The wheat had not been approved, and after the discovery, Japan and South Korea temporarily suspended some wheat orders.
