MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Medford police shot and killed a man who opened fire during a 19-hour standoff with officers yesterday. Police Chief Tim George tells the Mail Tribune that the man fired one shot from inside the house, then later raised the garage door and fired again at officers.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to outlaw a therapy that purports to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of young people. The bill would make it illegal for social workers or licensed mental health professionals such as psychologists or psychiatrists to practice what’s called conversion therapy on children younger than 18.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s unemployment rate fell significantly last month. The state Employment Department said Tuesday the jobless rate dropped half a percentage point in February, to 5.8 percent. The agency says the number of long-term unemployed people continues to fall. The number of workers in part-time jobs who would rather work full time has also fallen.

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – A chain of dental clinics serving low-income residents says hackers had access to Social Security and other personal information for more than 151,000 patients. The Bend Bulletin reports that Advantage Dental of Redmond is notifying patients and paying for an identity-theft monitoring service. The company says the breach occurred in late February.
