THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in The Dalles say a person died yesterday in a fire at a residence where shots were fired earlier as sheriff’s deputies tried to serve legal papers. The name of the victim was not immediately made public, and the authorities didn’t say how the person died Monday.

BEAVERCREEK, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman says firefighters used special resuscitating masks to revive two cats they pulled from a smoke-filled house in the Beavercreek area south of Oregon City. Spokesman Brandon Paxton tells the Oregonian one feline was doing well while the other was having “a little harder time” after the fire Monday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man who pleaded guilty to killing and dismembering his roommate has been sentenced for bank robberies that preceded the brutal murder. Federal prosecutors said Christian Delaurentiis of Aloha robbed seven banks from Medford to the Portland area in 2012.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge in Oregon has told federal forest managers to take a harder look at the environmental harms that may be caused by a new “ecological restoration” forestry project planned in northern spotted owl habitat. U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken ruled Monday in Eugene that the environmental analysis the U.S. Bureau of Land Management did on the planned White Castle timber sale outside Roseburg, Oregon, was inadequate, and ordered a more stringent environmental impact statement.
