SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon legislative Democrats have voted to change the way the state handles class-action lawsuits. Democrats say their bill would prevent companies that break the law from keeping the tainted money. Republicans say the measure would make it far too easy to bring large lawsuits in Oregon, damaging the business climate.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has passed a measure outlawing employers from punishing employees who inquire about or disclose their wages. The bill’s sponsor says the measure is a simple first step toward ensuring Oregon women earn equal pay for equal work. Opponents argued the proposal could damage the relationship between employers and employees while doing little to fix the wage gap.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon woman has sued a Portland hospital for $900,000, alleging that a brain tumor sample set aside for biopsy has been lost, leaving her uncertain about whether the tumor was cancerous. Catherine Stewart is accusing Oregon Health & Science University of medical negligence. The Oregonian newspaper reports that a hospital spokeswoman declined comment about the lawsuit filed recently in Multnomah County Circuit Court, citing federal privacy laws.

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters say a construction worker who fell 25 feet off a ladder onto concrete was seriously injured in Gladstone. KPTV reports that fire crews say the 67-year-old man was working on the Lake Oswego-Tigard Water Service Project to extend piping to and from the Willamette River. He reportedly fell onto a new concrete pad in a pit.
