SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon judge has ordered technology giant Oracle Inc. to continue hosting Oregon’s Medicaid health insurance system for low-income Oregonians even after the company’s contract expires this weekend. A Marion County Circuit Judge ruled that Oracle should host Medicaid for another year. Oracle had told the state it would terminate hosting on Saturday.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a Phoenix, Oregon, man to probation for shooting a cat with an arrow. The Mail Tribune newspaper reports that a Jackson County judge warned Cody Daigneault to do everything his probation officer says, or risk going to prison for 18 months.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Corrections says an inmate walked away from a work crew near Boardman. The agency says Steven Fox was working on a 10-man crew when he was discovered missing. He was convicted in Multnomah County on charges of burglary, robbery and unlawful use of a vehicle.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A fish normally found in the ocean off Japan and other tropic waters has turned up alive in a crab pot hauled up by a fisherman off the Oregon coast. John Chapman is an invasive species specialist at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center. He says it’s possible the fish – a striped knifejaw – came across the Pacific in debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami. Other possibilities include being discharged from ship’s ballast, or being dumped from an aquarium.
