When officers tried to talk they heard a gunshot and found that he had shot himself.

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – Sheriff’s deputies say an Aloha man upset over family issues fired a handgun at least 10 times inside his house, then wandered outside and fired about 10 more times from the driveway until a neighbor took the gun away. Washington County deputies say 43-year-old Troy Haren apparently drank “a large amount of alcohol” before grabbing the gun. Aloha is west of Portland.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A police investigator says it appears that the driver who struck and killed three children in a Springfield intersection ran a red light. The Register-Guard reports that the investigator says witnesses indicate the driver’s light was red and the pedestrians had the right of way Sunday evening. Police say the children were 8, 5 and 4 years old. Their mother was initially listed in critical condition. Police say she has stabilized.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A fire official says two dogs died in a Medford house fire caused by a dishwasher malfunction that ignited kitchen cabinets. Firefighters say a woman returned to her home yesterday afternoon to find it full of smoke. She could hear flames inside. No people were injured. Damage was estimated at $100,000.
