SALEM, Ore. (AP) – In the wake of an ethics scandal that ended former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s political career, Oregon lawmakers have proposed a wide variety of measures to prevent abuses in the future, uncover them or punish offenders. Republican lawmakers have proposed beefing up the attorney general’s investigative authority, limiting the actions of the governor’s spouse and giving impeachment power to the state Legislature. Oregon is the only state where the Legislature cannot impeach the governor.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon says Oracle Inc.’s plans to terminate hosting of the state’s Medicaid system would halt health insurance signups for thousands of low-income Oregonians. Oracle’s hosting contract with Oregon expires Feb. 28. The state is asking a judge to force Oracle to continue working with the state for another year. Oracle says it made no promises and no longer wants to do business with Oregon.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon is moving a vaccination clinic to Matthew Knight Arena as it steps up a fight against a blood stream infection that can cause a form of meningitis. The university hopes to inoculate as many as 22,000 students. The disease is believed to be responsible for the death of one student last week.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A sea turtle that was rescued from frigid Northwest waters and treated at the Oregon Coast Aquarium has caught a ride back to California on a Coast Guard training flight. The aquarium in Newport says the endangered olive ridley turtle named Solstice will complete her rehabilitation at SeaWorld in San Diego.
