PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man accused of scattering pipe bombs around Portland, McMinnville and Florence last year has pleaded not guilty to federal charges. The Oregonian reports that Neal Panschow is facing seven counts. On Dec. 16, police say Panschow tossed four pipe bombs in two separate bags out the window of a stolen car as he fled from officers in Portland. He was arrested Dec. 21.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – University of Oregon and public health officials are working to halt the spread of a contagious bacterial infection that has led to the hospitalization of three students and may be implicated in a fourth student’s death. The Register-Guard reports the school is telling students by campus-wide email about the availability of a vaccine that protects against meningococcemia and related diseases.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A divided Portland City Council has voted to rejoin the FBI-led anti-terrorism task force. Ten years ago, Portland became the first city to abandon the task force and it remains the only major city that does not fully take part. Opponents said Portland should not align itself with an agency that treats everyone as a suspect.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – No. 9 Utah handed Oregon State their first loss in 15 games at home, 47-37 last night. Both teams scrambled and scrapped on defense, making for a low-scoring affair. Utah shot 42.5 percent for the game, while Oregon State shot 33.3 percent.
