EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Joseph Young scored 23 points and Oregon held off several Colorado rallies in the second half for a 73-60 victory last night. Dillon Brooks added 14 points for the Ducks (19-8, 9-5), who took over sole possession of third place in the Pac-12 Conference with UCLA’s loss to Arizona State. Dwayne Benjamin had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

SEATTLE (AP) – William Powell scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as Seattle beat UMKC 74-56 last night. Isiah Umipig added 14 points, five assists and three steals for the Redhawks (12-13, 5-6 Western Athletic Conference). Jarell Flora had 13 points and Jack Crook had eight. Reese Holliday led the Kangaroos (11-16, 6-4) with 17 points. UMKC was outrebounded 31-22.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Jerome Kersey, the small forward who played his first 11 NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers and helped the San Antonio Spurs win the 1999 title, has died. He was 52. A Trail Blazers team ambassador, Kersey appeared Tuesday with fellow former Blazers Terry Porter and Brian Grant at a Portland school in celebration of African American History Month.

SEATTLE (AP) – Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Victor Sanchez was hospitalized in Venezuela following a boating accident. The Mariners could not comment on Sanchez’s condition yesterday, citing federal health reporting laws, but said the team was monitoring the situation. Sanchez remains in the hospital.
