Wrestler tabbed as Athlete of the Week

Viking grappler Jose DelaMora is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The 120 pounder qualified for the State 4A wrestling tournament with a third place finish at the Far West Skyline Regional Meet. All three of his wins came by pin, and his only loss was to the eventual tournament champion.

Honorable mention… Destinie Tatum. The Lady Viking basketball standout led Siuslaw with 16 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to Brookings-Harbor.

College Baseball

Dane Lund and KJ Harrison each recorded two hits Monday in Oregon State’s 5-2 loss to New Mexico in Surprise, Arizona. The Beavers closed out the opening weekend of play with a pair of wins… one each over Northwestern and Michigan State… and two losses to New Mexico.

Former Siuslaw Viking Jake Thompson, coming off a broken foot last fall, got the start and was tagged for eight hits in four innings for the loss.

The Beavers will remain in Arizona… they have another tournament beginning Thursday.

Ducks come away from the islands with three wins

Stephen Nogosek threw three innings of perfect ball to close things out and the Oregon Ducks rallied from a two-nothing deficit to beat Hawaii 3-2. The win was number 20-ranked Oregon’s third out of four games against the Rainbow Warriors. They’ll be back at PK Park in Eugene Thursday where they’ll host New Mexico State for four games.

Prep Basketball

On the basketball court… the Siuslaw Vikings are on the road this evening to Winston where they’ll take on the Douglas Trojans. The girls tip off at six, the boys immediately following. The pregame show on KCST is at 5:45.
