Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Temperatures hit record highs yesterday in parts of Washington and Oregon as one of the mildest winters continues in the Northwest. The National Weather Service reported record highs of 61 in Portland, 62 at Hillsboro and 66 at Salem. Forecasters expect more near-record highs today because of a summer-like high pressure ridge that creates sunny, dry days.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – With one day left before Gov. John Kitzhaber leaves office amid an ethics scandal and criminal investigation, he remains out of public view. The Legislature tried to get its new session back on track, while death penalty opponents made a last-minute appeal. House Speaker Tina Kotek briefed reporters on the Legislature’s plans and made clear she’s not seeking the secretary of state post that will become vacant when Kate Brown is sworn in tomorrow as Oregon’s next governor.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A tiny minnow that lives only in backwaters in Oregon’s Willamette Valley is the first fish to be formally removed from Endangered Species Act protection because it is no longer in danger of extinction. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe is expected to make the announcement about the Oregon chub today at a wildlife refuge outside Corvallis.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – Marcus Mariota says his shoulder is feeling good and that a decision will made in the next few days about whether he will throw during the NFL combine. Mariota was back in North Texas last night to receive the Davey O’Brien Award that goes to the nation’s top quarterback.
