VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Alex Biega scored the winning goal in his first NHL game to help Vancouver defeat Minnesota. Henrik Sedin, with a goal and an assist, and Bo Horvat also scored for the Canucks. Eddie Lack made 20 saves in the win. Nino Niederreiter scored twice for Minnesota, which got 26 saves from Devan Dubnyk.

DENVER (AP) – Cody McLeod and Matt Duchene scored 9 seconds apart, Jarome Iginla had two assists and the Colorado Avalanche beat the slumping Arizona Coyotes 5-2 last night. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mark Arcobello scored for Arizona, which did not manage a shot on goal in the second period. Mike McKenna made 29 saves in his first start of the season.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – Marcus Mariota says his shoulder is feeling good and that a decision will made in the next few days about whether he will throw during the NFL combine. Mariota was back in North Texas last night to receive the Davey O’Brien Award that goes to the nation’s top quarterback. The Heisman Trophy winner said he’s looking forward to throwing in Indianapolis if he’s able to do that. Mariota graduated from Oregon in December.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – George Attla Jr. was an unmatched sprint racing champion and one of Alaska’s most decorated mushers. He died Sunday at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. He was 81 years old. Attla was known as the “Huslia Hustler” and was widely considered the best sprint sled dog racer to ever compete.
