PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland school district reports fewer students are being suspended or expelled, but black and Native American students are still being sent home at far greater rates than white students. The Oregonian reports the school district is trying to reduce both the overall rate of exclusionary discipline and the gap between the rates of such discipline for whites and minority groups such as blacks and Native Americans. Last fall, the state sanctioned the district, requiring it to spend money on programs to close the gap.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Corvallis police say they’re investigating what appears to be a killing at a city park. Police cordoned a large wooded area in Alan B. Berg Park where the body of a woman was found. Investigators said they don’t have a suspect or person of interest.

LAKEVIEW, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Lake County are looking for a 44-year-old man who has vanished, leaving behind a burned-out motor home near a snow park. The Lake County sheriff’s department says the man was last seen Friday near the Quartz Mountain Snow Park. His motor home got stuck on a forest road.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when a collision on a Salem bridge knocked him into the Willamette River. Police said a boater fished the man out downstream of the Marion Street bridge, and he was taken to the hospital. Police said the driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with officers.
