LOS ANGELES (AP) – A scorpion stung a woman on the hand just before her flight from Los Angeles to Portland took off. Alaska Airlines says Flight 567 was taxing on the runway Saturday night when the passenger was stung. The plane returned to the gate and the woman was checked by medics. She refused additional medical treatment but didn’t get back on the plane. The Oregon State University’s men’s basketball team was on the flight.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon State Police trooper who made headlines when he was ejected from a college football game in Eugene has filed a lawsuit against his employer. Marc Boyd’s $1.6 million suit says state police higher-ups threatened to fire him after he accused a lieutenant of illegally searching a motor home. Boyd previously sued the city of Eugene, alleging he was wrongfully detained by police at an Oregon Ducks game.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The city of Portland is considering a tobacco ban in public parks that would extend to its five golf courses. The Oregonian reports such a ban would be unprecedented in Oregon. Other Oregon cities that have banned smoking in their parks have exempted golf courses. A vote is scheduled for Wednesday.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – An energy company is seeking approval from Vancouver, Washington, to convert its existing facility to handle crude oil by trains. The Columbian reports that NuStar Energy is proposing to handle about 22,000 barrels of crude oil a day at the Port of Vancouver.
