SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Sources with direct knowledge of the situation say embattled Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber had reached a decision to resign because of an ethics scandal surrounding him and his fiancée, but he changed his mind for reasons that are unclear. The sources tell The Associated Press that Kitzhaber told some of his aides on Sunday that he was going to resign and on Tuesday he asked Secretary of State Kate Brown to rush back from a conference in Washington. Brown would become governor if Kitzhaber resigns. Both are Democrats.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon woman is suing Portland-area police agencies because an officer seized her cellphone as she was live-streaming video of an arrest last year in downtown Portland. The Oregonian reports that the suit by Carrie Medina says that her Constitutional rights were violated. None of the defendants offered an immediate response.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Troubles on the West Coast waterfront are getting worse. Amid an increasingly damaging labor dispute, 29 West Coast seaports which handle about $1 trillion of goods annually will be mostly closed four of the next five days. The announcement came yesterday from companies that operate marine terminals where dockworkers move containers of goods on and off massive ocean-going vessels.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s original state constitution is making a rare appearance this weekend. It’ll be displayed Friday and Saturday in the rotunda at the state Capitol for the state’s 156th birthday. State archivist Mary Beth Herkert tells the Salem Statesman Journal that the document is in fragile condition. It’s usually kept in a protective, acid-free case in a darkened area of the state archives building
