Sailors clip the Eagles

Chris Free and Tucker Ford combined for 30 first half points and the Mapleton Sailors ran away from Eddyville Friday night, 65-35. Free wound up with a double-double… 13 points and 12 rebounds. Ford led scoring with 22 points. Two other Sailors scored in double figures… Jack Hardisty with 12; Hunter Simington with ten.

The win moved the Sailors into a tie with McKenzie for fourth place in the Mountain West League with two games remaining.

Far West Basketball – Pirates sweep Vikings

The Number eight ranked Marshfield Pirates overcame a nine-point first quarter deficit and beat the Siuslaw Vikings 73-48 Friday night in Florence for a Far West League boys’ basketball victory. In other league games, South Umpqua beat Douglas 83-50; North Bend downed Brookings-Harbor 56-32.

For the girls, Siuslaw trailed by four at the end of three quarters, but the Pirates pulled away in the final period for a 54-35 victory. Douglas demolished South Umpqua 74-17; Brookings Harbor doubled up North Bend for a 56-28 win.

Beavers undefeated at Gill

Gary Payton II had 17 points and five steals and Oregon State beat Washington 64-50 yesterday afternoon to win the Beavers’ 14th straight at home. The Beavers improved to 16-7 over all for their best record over 23 games since the 1989-90 team started 19-and-four.

Ducks move into three-way tie for third

In Eugene, Joseph Young just missed a triple-double with 29-points, ten rebounds and eight assists as Oregon beat Washington State 95-72. Dwayne Benjamin added 25 points for the Ducks who are 17-and-7 overall.

Oregon, Oregon State and Stanford are in a three way tie for third place in the Pac-12 with 7-4 league records. Utah and Arizona, at 8-2, are tied for the conference lead.
