Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – One moment, Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler found himself on the wrong side of a nightmare. The next, he saved the Super Bowl. Butler’s interception of a Russell Wilson pass with 20 seconds left yesterday sealed New England’s fourth Super Bowl title – a heart-stopping 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Marshawn Lynch got it to the Patriots 1, but the Seahawks called a pass play on second down and Butler, a rookie out of West Alabama, cut off receiver Ricardo Lockette and made the interception.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Seattle cornerback Jeremy Lane made a big play, then went down with a gruesome arm injury. Lane’s first career interception came in the end zone to halt a first-quarter Patriots scoring threat. As he returned the pick, he fell awkwardly on his arm as he was knocked out of bounds, bending it at an angle that is hard to watch on replays.

SEATTLE (AP) – People in Seattle poised to celebrate a second straight Super Bowl win by the Seahawks were instead left stunned. In the city’s University District police officers kept watch on a crowd of dozens of flag waving fans.

SEATTLE (AP) – Sam Singer hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with five seconds left to lift California to a 90-88 win over Washington yesterday. Singer’s shot came after Nigel Williams-Goss gave Washington an 88-87 lead, its first since early in the first half, with a short jumper at 19.5 seconds.
