SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Legislative Republicans are threatening to block a proposed transportation package if Democrats move forward with legislation aimed at combating greenhouse gases. Senate President Peter Courtney said yesterday the development makes him pessimistic about the prospects for a gas tax increase to pay for transportation projects. The Salem Democrat spoke at a legislative forum organized by The Associated Press.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A central Oregon search and rescue coordinator says a 35-year-old Bend man who fell about 30 feet onto rocks near the Deschutes River in the Dillon Falls area has been rescued and flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

BEAVERCREEK, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a 72-year-old Beavercreek, Oregon, man and his 62-year-old wife have been found dead in what is described as a murder-suicide. The sheriff’s office had received a 911 call from a woman who said she received a message from her stepfather indicating he had killed her mother and would be killing himself.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – A Klamath County grand jury has indicted the driver in a single-vehicle crash that killed that two people last month. The Oregon State Police said in a news release that 22-year-old Gauge Lee Gray of Klamath Falls was charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
