PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal regulators say a chain restaurant discriminated against male employees when it refused to hire them for summer jobs in a Utah resort town. The claims against Ruby Tuesday came in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Portland by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A Ruby Tuesday employee in Corvallis says he wanted to apply for the job. But the announcement said only female employees would be considered — and only females were selected.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Secretary of State Kate Brown hopes a more Democratic Legislature will improve the odds for her effort to automatically add licensed drivers to the voter rolls. Brown’s initiative is one of several stymied liberal priorities that are likely to find a friendlier reception in the new Legislature, which begins a five-month session on Feb. 2.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The administration at the University of Oregon is asking for the return of 22,000 pages of documents from the president’s office. The school says the records were illegally released some weeks ago because they weren’t reviewed for privacy concerns. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that one has been made public, on a blog run by economics Professor Bill Harbaugh.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A man in southern Oregon is accused of stealing a ruby necklace that once belonged to actress Ginger Rogers. The Jackson County sheriff’s office says the necklace is worth up to $1,500, and the transient got about $424 when he pawned it in Medford. Investigators told the Medford Mail Tribune that 57-year-old Paul Pedder acknowledged selling the necklace.
