EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Transportation is getting ready to start a renovation of the Highway 101 bridge over the Siuslaw River in Florence. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that the four-year, $37 million project is supposed to prevent corrosion and extend the bridge’s life by at least two decades. ODOT is opening bidding this month for contractors.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – An economic development official is exploring whether eastern Oregon and western Idaho could support production of pumpkin seeds for healthy snack foods. Kit Kamo of the Snake River Economic Development Alliance tells The Argus Observer that at least one food company is seeking a U.S. producer of pumpkin seeds. Most pumpkin seeds in snack foods now come from China.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A police officer shot and killed an 800-pound bull that escaped a fenced pasture and charged a man in Cornelius yesterday. The Washington County Sheriff’s office says an officer shot and killed the bull after it knocked over the man. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of broken ribs.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) – The Senior Bowl isn’t giving up on Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage says that although the former Oregon quarterback is jumping to the NFL, he hasn’t yet signed with an agent. If Mariota decides to play in Saturday’s showcase game, he would be a fourth quarterback on the North team.
