EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Eugene say a few outdoor fires were set last night in the wake of the Oregon Ducks’ 42-20 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff national championship game. Police put on extra patrols in advance of the big event but no arrests or injuries were reported. A police spokeswoman says the fires were quickly extinguished.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns as Ohio State won the first national title in college football’s playoff era, running over Oregon 42-20 last night. Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota threw a touchdown pass on the opening drive, but couldn’t lead the second-seeded Ducks to their first national title.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota says he has not made a decision about whether to leave Oregon and enter the NFL draft. The junior has been expected to go pro after three seasons as a starter and a Heisman Trophy. Mariota is considered a likely first-round draft pick

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Police made a handful of arrests after using tear gas to disperse some Ohio State students and football fans in Columbus, Ohio, following the Buckeyes’ win. The Columbus Fire Department says 89 fires were reported near Ohio State’s campus. Fans tore down a goalpost inside Ohio Stadium.
