PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two new wrongful death lawsuits have been filed in connection with a helicopter crash that killed five Americans and two Peruvians. The crash occurred two years ago in eastern Peru. The suits filed this week in Portland, Oregon, state that the helicopter broke apart in flight for unknown reasons, and the suits both list defective components as a possible cause. The Oregonian reports that families of six of the seven people who died have now filed suit against Oregon-based Columbia Helicopters. The total amount sought is $110 million.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A father who says his son was bullied on a playing field last year has filed a $600,000 lawsuit against the Eugene School District. Gregory Bang alleges that Cal Young Middle School officials left students unsupervised during a lunch period last May in which four older boys beat his son. The suit says the victim sustained bruising to his face, head, neck and torso, and continues to suffer psychological pain.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A longtime Eugene criminal defense attorney has had his law license suspended because he failed to pay nearly $400,000 in federal taxes and penalties. The Register-Guard reports that the Oregon State Bar suspended John Kolego’s license for 90 days. Kolego has handled a number of high-profile cases over the past three decades.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An unusual offer of amnesty has paid off in an Oregon dognapping case. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says that three days after a chocolate lab named Brewer disappeared from his owner’s yard near Marion, south of Salem, someone returned the animal Sunday afternoon. Deputies had offered a 48-hour amnesty period for whoever took the animal to return it, no questions asked.
