EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Eugene/Springfield Fire Department responded to a fire last night involving a laser plasma cutter at the Farwest Steel manufacturing plant. The department says the company evacuated employees and isolated the fuel. The fire in the metal cutting machine was contained in 20 minutes.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Providence Health & Services says it will no longer sell or stock sugary drinks in its Oregon hospitals and business offices as part of what it calls a healthy dining initiative. The Oregonian reports that the organization removed the drinks Monday at its northeast Portland business office.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A sea turtle found hypothermic and emaciated last month on a southwest Washington beach is improving at a Newport, Oregon, aquarium. A second sea turtle, found last Friday on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula, was dead on arrival Monday evening at the Seattle Aquarium. The turtles were found far from the temperate waters of their normal winter range.

IRVING, Texas (AP) – The College Football Playoff says it will help pay for the parents and guardians of Ohio State and Oregon players to travel to the national championship game in North Texas on Monday. The NCAA granted a waiver to the College Football Playoff to provide a reimbursement of up to $1,250 per parent or guardian that will cover hotel accommodations, travel and meals.
