RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks will be without defensive tackle Jordan Hill for Saturday’s playoff game against Carolina after he suffered a severe calf injury while working out last weekend. Seattle coach Pete Carroll announced Hill’s injury yesterday. Hill suffered a knee sprain in the season finale against St. Louis, but was in the process of coming back when he injured his calf.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) – A judge has renewed an order for deposition for two key witnesses who failed to show up for an interview in soccer star Hope Solo’s assault case. Seattlepi.com reports that the two alleged victims – Solo’s half sister and nephew – did not appear for interviews Friday. Solo, a goalie for the U.S. women’s soccer team and the Seattle Reign professional club, is accused of two counts of assault in June.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Sounders have hired Garth Lagerwey as their new general manager, with current GM Adrian Hanauer moving to focus on the business operations of the franchise. Seattle announced the move yesterday. Lagerwey had spent the last seven-plus seasons as the general manager of Real Salt Lake, helping turn that franchise into an MLS Cup winner.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Nick Bonino and Linden Vey scored in the second period to snap long goal droughts, and the Vancouver Canucks beat the New York Islanders 3-2 last night. Ryan Stanton added his first goal in more than a year as Vancouver improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven games. Eddie Lack made 21 saves for the Canucks.
