TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Before the Ohio State Buckeyes face Oregon in college football’s championship game next Monday, the Ohio city of Oregon hopes to distance itself from the Ducks. Toledo’s Blade newspaper reports Mayor Mike Seferian says the city plans to issue a proclamation declaring it distinct from the Buckeyes’ opponent, though he stopped short of committing to a temporary name change.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say they prevented a hit-and-run suspect from jumping off a bridge into the Willamette River early yesterday. Witnesses said the suspect took off most of his clothes and ran to the middle of the Morrison Bridge, where he threatened to jump. Officers grabbed him and held him dangling over the river until more police showed up and helped pull him to safety.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Navy is considering an increase in the number of sonobuoys used in anti-submarine warfare off the Pacific Coast. The Oregonian reports that the Navy acknowledges that deploying more of them is likely to harm endangered leatherneck turtles. They would be in areas at least 12 miles offshore from Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland city officials are considering a lawsuit against Pabst Brewing Company over the brewer’s use of the iconic downtown “Portland Oregon” sign to promote a music festival last year. The Oregonian reports that the city ordered Pabst to stop using the logo. According to city council documents, the company “did not respond favorably.”
